Everyone finds a different reason to live so it's not an easy question to answer in the first place. Not only that, but everyone dies at some point - civilizations end, new ones begin, and all that. Maybe he needed to go on a journey himself instead of having others try to answer it for him. Sounds like he needed a different kind of help really.
